If your company employs workers from the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA), make sure you understand how possible changes to immigration policy after Brexit will impact your business, by attending one of FTA’s Van Excellence Operational Briefings, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Vans.
The three briefings, taking place in Edinburgh, Derby, and London from 26 March to 2 April, will feature presentations by FTA’s policy experts: Sally Gilson, Head of Skills, and Denise Beedell , Policy Manager for Vans and Urban, who will be sharing the very latest information for those employing European workers. The briefings will also cover up to the minute developments in compliance, operational and safety issues, as well as exploring the role of van drivers as industrial athletes. The events are also sponsored by Bott, Brigade Electronics, Hertz, Lex Autolease and Quartix.
Sally Gilson , Head of Skills at FTA, the business organisation that administers Van Excellence, commented: “A sizable portion of van drivers working in the UK are EU nationals, it is of the upmost importance that businesses understand how immigration policy changes under Brexit will impact their workforce. The session will provide vital information on the status of EU and EEA workers once the UK leaves the EU, including how citizens can apply for Settled Status and the shape of the proposed new Skills Based Immigration System; attendees will receive the most up-to-date insight and need-to-know information.”
With poor mental and physical health particularly common among lone workers like van drivers – which can potentially impact their driving ability – the briefings will also tackle the physical, mental and safety challenges facing individuals. Speakers will include representatives from the police, Transport Research Laboratory, British Dietetic Association and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
The events will be held at three venues:
26 March 2019: Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh
28 March 2019: Pride Park, Derby
2 April 2019: Thistle Heathrow Hotel, London
Places at FTA’s Van Excellence Operational Briefing can be booked for £75 +VAT per person, by visiting fta.co.uk/veob19 or calling 03717 11 22 22.
Administered by FTA, the leading organisation in UK logistics, the Van Excellence programme was created in 2010 to promote the safe operation of vans, represent the interests of the sector, and celebrate operators demonstrating excellent standards. Central to the scheme is the Van Excellence Code, a set of minimum best practice standards all van operators should aspire to achieve, covering safety, efficiency and sustainability.
